Sophia Kacimi, French-Moroccan creative, invites us to play in her colourful world: Zoubida. 

Rooted in Morocco, her work bridges craftsmanship, fashion, interior design and art. 

At the heart of Zoubida are ‘art-to-wear’ and ‘art-to-use’ creations that revive bold jacquard fabrics — once the centrepieces of Moroccan homes — and give them new life. These pieces act as living archives, transforming endangered traditions into playful, contemporary forms.

Zoubida functions like a laboratory of craft experimentations, where local artisans and Kacimi co-create objects and garments that expand the possibilities of handwork in decline. Whether to be worn or used in daily life, each piece carries a story of collaboration, memory and reinvention.

Among her most recent experiments, Kacimi welcomes us around a timeless game: chess. This installation — a giant-scale set made with artisans in Fes and Rabat — extends her exploration of craft into the realm of play. 

In 2024, Kacimi won the Craft & Commitment Prize from Maison Mode Mediterranee. 

Her work has been shown at the 1-54 African Art Fair in London and Marrakech, and the V&A Museum in London. Kacimi is currently a finalist in the Institut du Monde Arabe’s “Emerging Talent” prize.
