Founded in 2003 by Jutta and Joachim Melchers, ARTCO represents a selection of local and international artists, with a particular interest in painting and photography. The gallery’s main focus is on established and emerging artists with an African background.

Saïdou Dicko was born in Burkina Faso in 1979. He lives and works in Paris, France. Through painting, photography, video or installations, Dicko transforms the representation of forms giving life to visual phenomena, to physical and psychological events of light, uniting the two extreme values that are at the heart of black and white contrast. . He finds pleasure in bringing together the opposites to talk to us about equality, union, maternal love, freedom, humanity ... His artistic work continues to evolve thanks to his travels, his experience, his various inspirations and always his quest for a better world. In his photographic collages he enhances with paint and textile-like patterns.

Toyin Loye was born 1959 in Nigeria. He studied Fine Art at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife. He is is a representative of the African artistic tradition who portrays his cultural heritage in his work. Each and every element in the work of Toyin Loye has a specific significance. His cheerful animals and masked human figures are attributes of his culture. They are symbols of the Yoruba people to which he belongs. This is also reflected in his poetry, which is often integrated in his paintings. He has even moved further by experimenting with photographs and carved papers. Toyin Loye lives and works in The Hague, the Netherlands

Maurice Mbikayi was born in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) in 1974. He currently lives and works in Cape Town (South Africa). In 2000 he graduated with a BA in Graphic Design (Advertising and Visual Communication), from the Academies des Beaux Arts in Kinshasa. He completed his Master of Fine Art degree (with distinction) in 2015 at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. He thematizes in his collages and wall installations the issue of so-called e-waste, i.e. electronic waste that is imported to Africa from European and American countries and disposed of and burned in large landfills. He lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa

Patrick Tagoe-Turkson is a multidisciplinary artist with his studio based in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. He received a Master of Fine Art Degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology in Kumasi, Ghana. Patrick has participated in over 100 exhibitions both locally and internationally. His work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in private and public collection of the Royal Ontario Museum, Canada and the Casoria Contemporary Art Museum in Italy midst other private and public collections. The artist collects found flip-flops debris which is abundance on the shores where he leaves. Using traditional art concepts and craft techniques; he gives that medium a new voice that speaks to issues of contemporary concerns.
