LA GALERIE 38

Galerie 38 was established in Casablanca, a major African hub, twelve years ago. Its eclectic programme brings together the Masters of modernity and the African avant-garde. However, a common thread can be found in all its artists, whose universes are nevertheless highly personal, and this through the invention of plastic and formalist languages that are conceptually and plastically very strong. Colour, material and the art of revisiting the continent’s relatively young art history in a very “pop” manner enable them to engage in rich and intense dialogues as regards the expression of resolutely modern and inventive aesthetics. Thus we have always favoured steady support for these creators of meaning and form rather than the sometimes fleeting effects of fashion. This loyalty and long-term commitment have also enabled us to produce exhibitions, off-site projects and a rigorous literature, which are essential for a country and a continent that are still very young in terms of the expression of their various plastic bodies of work.
