GALERIE VERONIQUE RIEFFEL

BOOTH C16

Dedicated to contemporary art and design, the Véronique Rieffel Gallery presents works by artists from the Middle East and the African continent, as well as Western artists who have built strong relationships with these regions of the world. Newly created, it intends to break with a Western-centered vision of the art market. The gallery promotes both emerging and experienced Artists. Aiming to participate in and contribute to the new dynamism and organisation of the cultural landscape of these regions, the gallery proposes to enrich the knowledge of these artists and their cultural backgrounds. A multidisciplinary program both on site and in partnership with other institutions is carried out on the occasion of major artistic events in the different regions (artfairs, biennals, artistic seasons…etc).

Artists presented at AKAA 2022 :

Carine Mansan +

Carine Mansan Chowanek is a Franco-Ivorian visual artist, who is based in the mythical Quartier France in Grand Bassam, Ivory Coast. After studying applied arts in Paris and Montreal, she turned to the visual arts. During her training at the Fine Arts Academy in Montreal and participation in various workshops with Max Ginsburg and Stephen Early, she developed her artistic practice by alternating between painting and sculpture. Representing scenes of daily life and drawing inspiration from the faces that surround her, Carine explores themes related to intimacy to lead a broader reflection on society. Carine Mansan questions the place of women, making the condition of women a recurring subject in her work.

Olga Yaméogo +

Born in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Olga Yaméogo (1966) moved to Toulouse in 1982. Driven by creative energy since childhood, she is convinced of the saving and liberating aspects of art. Yaméogo initially studied art therapy before dedicating herself to artistic practice. Her debut as a painter coincided with the affirmation of a newfound freedom. Through her paintings, she captures the contemporary history that is marked by massive flows of populations forced to migrate. In her style of portraiture, the artist places the individual at the centre of this narrative. Migration, the body and crossbreeding are all subjects that Olga Yaméogo uses to question different facets of globalisation.
