KRYSTEL ANN ART

BOOTH A1

Krystel Ann Art is a contemporary art gallery and agency founded in 2016 by two collectors from Guadeloupe, Olivier Tharsis and Chrystelle Merabli. The gallery specialized in the promotion of afro descendent artists. Krystel Ann Art develops its own projects basing its artistic selection on a demand for singularity: Olivier and Chrystelle seek out difference in approach, originality in expression and sensitivity in aesthetics. The gallery collaborates with public institutions which aim to present Caribbean aesthetic from the African diaspora. The gallery also collaborates with curators in creating a decolonising discourse of the black man and its culture. The gallery aims at bringing cultural singularities to the international contemporary art market.

Chantalea Commin +

Chantalea Commin (1971) is a French multimedia artist with Hindu, African and Amerindian origins. Born in Guadeloupe, her work combines social criticism and imaginary motifs and addresses the relationships of domination surrounding Black societies. An artist with experimental and protean practices, between true pleasure, financial necessity and ecological commitment, Commin becomes a Bricoleur of life, crafting, diverting, and favouring diverse and inclusive beauty. Empowerment prevails over consumption. She uses a variety of media (painting, drawing, video, textiles, installation and digital painting) and with conscious consumption embodied in her work, she depicts a world and lifestyles that are changing, in constant and profound mutation...

José García Cordero +

The Dominican Republic-born artist Jose Carcia Cordero (1951) is seen as the Master of Caribbean surrealism. While living and working between his native island and France, in his absurd paintings he criticises living between the Caribbean and European culture. The artist provides artworks which are created ad hoc specifically for the theme of human migration, where geopolitics and natural obstacles play a major role in the fate of migrants. He studied painting with the Dominican master Hernández Ortega. In 1977, fleeing the Balaguer dictatorship, he moved to Paris in voluntary exile where he studied contemporary history at the University of Vincennes. In the course of his career, he has received numerous recognitions, such as the "Medal of Merit" awarded by the French Senate for his contributions to Latin American culture.
