BY LARA SEDBON

BOOTH C10

Founded in 2019, By Lara Sedbon supports French contemporary artists who distinguish themselves by their technicality and their relationship to the creative process. The link between the contemporary dimension of the work and a certain form of archaism constitutes the guiding line of the gallery’s programming, which remains eclectic.

Artists presented at AKAA 2022 :

Abdelhak Benallou +

Born in 1992 in Algeria, Abdelhak Benallou graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Alger, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Dunkerque and is completing his last year at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. In 2022, he was awarded the Prix Sarr and the Prix des portraits des amis des Beaux-Arts. Abdelhak Benallou's work is built through a realistic approach mixed with a pictorial narrative, leading to a reflection on behaviour, social relations and the weight of determinisms. The evolution between generations challenges him on both a human and technological level. The theme of the overconsumption of digital media and the isolation of the characters is central to his approach.

Rebecca Brodskis +

Rebecca Brodskis (b. 1988 in France) lives and works in Paris. She spent most of her childhood travelling and living between France and Morocco. Brodskis studied painting at the Ateliers des Beaux Arts de la Ville de Paris and at Central St. Martins in London, graduating in 2010. In 2015, she also completed a Master’s degree in Sociology, focusing her research on the themes of vulnerabilities and social crisis. Exploring the borders of the sensible world, Brodskis’ work evolves between conscious and unconscious spaces, leading to a reflection on existence, the self and the otherness. A prominent idea throughout Brodskis’ work is that of being in an in-between: intermediate space at the cross-roads of empirical reality and imagination, order and disorder, materialism and spirituality, determinism and freedom.

Eugénie Modai +

Eugénie Modai, the granddaughter of artists, grew up in an artistic environment and was fascinated by noble materials and the power of colours at a very young age, convinced of the magic of their combination. She draws this energy from the African part of her origins which she explores through dance and a certain form of primitive trance. Free and self-taught, she began to create all kinds of pieces and, little by little, her desire to create an atypical universe around the singular material that has guided her since childhood: cotton varnish. Her works, playful and joyful, are rooted in a deep reflection on the different strata of life. Settled since 2018 in her studio in Sèvres, she devotes all her time to it and brings out, through sculpture, what she has deep inside her.
