Richard Mensah

Richard Mensah, born in Ghana, currently resides in London where he has his full-time studio and is represented by Chilli Art Projects. His style is mainly intuitive, taking inspiration from his African heritage, childhood memories and everyday happenings as well as his passion for social issues. He does not limit himself in his work and paints and creates as inspired. His love of colours, nature and fascination for everyday life shows throughout his work. With a deep fascination for shapes, movement and shades and light these are captured in his paintings. His paintings and creations are vivid, using bright bold colours thus capturing various emotions and combining abstraction and realism. There has been an explosion of confidence in art within the black community during the Harlem Renaissance. The figures depict and exude self-confidence, assurance and thriving shown through the variety of poses Mensah depicts.
